since the beginning of march i have enjoyed listening to mumford and sons. i'd heard about them before but hadn't jumped on the mumford bandwagon, but after rekindle i loved them. also the mumford and sons pandora radio station is one of the best i've listened to... been listening to it at work for weeks.
if you haven't heard of mumford and sons, they are an english folk rock band that formed in december of 2007 and consists of marcus mumford (vocals, guitar, drums, mandolin), ben lovett (vocals, keyboards, accordion, drums), country marshall (vocals, banjo, dobro), and ted dwane (vocals, string bass, drums, guitar). they have an ep "love your ground" which i haven't actually listened to yet. what i know them from is for their first full length album "sigh no more" which was released in the US in early 2010.
i haven't listened to them long enough to have favorites per se but i do like this one of theirs.
i am super excited because i'll be going to see them in concert on june 9th in maryland with friends. its going to be so much fun.
so, give them a listen and see what you think. i think you'll like them. you can check out their website here: http://www.mumfordandsons.com/
on the other side of media - i love going to see movies on saturday mornings. its cheap, it gets you out of the bed but you still don't have to be active and when you leave the theatre you've already had a good time and yet you have a whole saturday afternoon to enjoy. its fabulous. i go to see a lot of movies in theatres with momma on mondays, but every now and then there's an action movie i want to see and since mom has zero tolerance for any kind of suspense or action scenes, i see these movies by myself on random afternoons and saturday mornings. alone at the movie theatre?? you might be thinking... yes. i love going to movies by myself. you don't have to worry about interaction or what the other people are thinking. its completely up to you to determine what you think about the movie. i'm not saying it isn't fun to watch movies with people, but watching them alone is probably not as bad as you'd think. if you've never tried it... do it. its fun.
this is the movie i saw this morning:
hanna is everything i thought it would be and more. i first fell in love with saoirse ronan when she played briony in atonement and she has never failed to amaze me since then. i truly believe she is one of the most talented teen actors of my generation and i don't feel that is an over-exaggeration. there is such a depth to her and her acting that immediately draws you in. in a way she reminds me of the silent movie era when actors communicated without words a variety of emotion and feeling using their expressions, eyes and movements. saoirse can just stare at the screen and you sense incredible emotion, even though she's not really doing or saying anything. she's crazy good. she really made this movie though cate blanchett and eric bana did fabulous jobs in their supporting roles as well.
i kept waiting for some weird plot twist or something to come in and lessen the effect of the film or make it cheesy but i was so glad that it never came. i would equate this movie on the same caliber as the bourne identity, if not better. it is sharp, suspenseful, well paced with excellent fight and action scenes, great music, amazing actors and on top of all of that really great character development and relational scenes which make an action movie go from just a bunch of cool fighting to an excellent film all around. i thoroughly enjoyed it and it will be a movie i will watch again. so, if you haven't seen it yet, definitely go out and see it. "its a keeper" as we say in my family.
and thats about it.. a few more miscellaneous youtubes i've enjoyed recently...
